Below I will list step by step instructions on how to customize your acme people search engine so it looks unique. You can also add your own images and content, so you can get indexed by the search engines faster.

To start you will need a html editor such as my free website builder and a ftp program called filezilla. You will then need to transfer your index.htm file  back and fortth  from your computer to your hosting files.

Here are the steps:

* Open up filezilla and enter your domain name and also your login information for your hosting such as hostgator or GDI. Then you will see your computer’s files on the left and your website files on the right.

* Look for the index.htm file and transfer it to your computer, I usually transfer it to my desktop so it is easy to find.You do this by simply dragging the file to your desktop.

* Then open your html editor and find the file index.htm. You will then be able to customize your search engine from there.

* If you want to insert a image or banner, you must firstly go to photobucket. Once you have saved the image on your computer you can go to photobucket and upload that image. You will then be able to get a html code where you can insert it into your search engine.

* To place your image or banner, I usually type in xxx to where you would like to insert your image and then click on view source. You can then look for the xxx that you done earlier and highlight it and enter the html code of the image that you got from photobucket.

* If you would like to add a link, click on the screen where you would like it to appear and insert text, then click on link on the top of the screen where the navigation bar is and insert the url.

* To change your background color, click on view source and find the code that has background color, which can be found quite close to the top.

When you have finished customizing your search engine, click on save and then you can transfer the same index.htm file back to your search engine files. It will ask you if you would like to overite that file, and you can click yes which will complete the transfer successfully.

Whenever you customize your search engine, remember to go to your Acme back office and set your FTP updates to NO, so you do not lose any changes that you have made to your search engine.
